Based on an FIR filed by a 14 year old minor girl victim who was raped by an independent MLA Julius Kitbok Dorphang and was later arrested, the police now doubt that the guest house owned by the family of Meghalaya Home Minister H D R Lyngdoh where the girl victim was once raped could be involved in a wide spread sex racket and a probe into it could lead to the involvement of several influential people.
According to the FIR of the minor girl rape victim, she was taken to that guest house, Marvelene’s Inn, located in posh Shillong locality Rilbong, many times for serving many other clients.
Shillong City SP Vivek Syiem told media that, “We have arrested nine people, and are looking for at least two more who are absconding. Those arrested include an employee of Marvelene’s Inn, and we are examining whether the owner and management of the inn were involved in the racket.”
Meanwhile, Meena Kharkongor, chairperson of the Meghalaya State Commission for Protection of Child Rights (MSCPCR) has alleged that further probe into the case and the guest house could bring out the names of several other important persons and bring into light many other girl victims of the sex racket.
Until now, six cases were registered in connection with the seven FIRs filed under sections of IPC, Immoral Trafficking (Prevention) Act and POCSO (Protection of Children from Sexual Offences Act).
On the other hand, Rymbai, the owner of the Marvelene’s Inn had said that, “I was informed by the manager of the guest-house that police came and picked up one waiter who would allegedly bring the girl there. Other than the arrested waiter, other waiters were oblivious of the presence of the girl in a room.”
