Mumbai Faces Ola, Uber One-Day Strike Today
By MEHER ONISA : 10-Mar-2017
MUMBAI: About 8,000 Ola and Uber drivers are on the grounds of protest today against the Maharashtra City Taxi scheme 2017. The agitated taxi drivers have entered into remonstration for the fulfilment of their genuine demands and interests which had to lead them to call a strike on Friday the 10th of March 2017.
The main reason is the instigation of the Compressed Natural Gas as the fuel of choice for these cabs. Many banks and car rental financial agencies have already started to join hands with car dealers to attract people and let them avail loans to purchase the tourist cabs.
It was the government's motive to make the taxi trade level up to the radio cabs. The Ola and Uber drivers are in the state of disagreement with the lesser incentive structures. Thus the drivers’ union have determined to stage a protest once again at Azad Maidan on March 14th in the company of Diwakar Raote the state transport minister. In the event, their needs are not answered in the due course of time, they might call for the unsettled strike again on March 21st, 2017.
