Reliance Jio Responds To TRAI Query on Promotional Offering

GUJRAT: Reliance Jio has sought extra time span till December 29 to respond to telecom regulator TRAI's query on the appendage of its free voice and data plan.
TRAI had communicated with Jio on December 20 asking it for explanation within five days why the 'Happy New Year offer' should not be seen as "violation" of regulatory rules.
The Reliance Jio has now corresponded with TRAI in order to seek a cushion time till December 29 for despatching its response.
TRAI was in the process of examining Jio's new promotional offer. It had said that preliminary examination of the new offer filed illustrated that the quantum of data in the new offer seemed to be an adjunct of the old promotional offer beyond 90 official days.
TRAI also ordered Jio to give an estimated month-wise projection of the subscribers that are speculated to be included added until March 31, 2017.
In a meeting with TRAI earlier December, Jio has said that the latest Happy New Year promotional offering is different from the Jio’s inaugural Welcome Offer that had commenced on September 5. The initial offer had provided 4GB of free data per day but the new offer is capped with 1GB under Fair Usage Policy.
With respect to the market dominance, Reliance Jio is six percent of the installations in the India whereas the Competition Commission of India (CCI) policy specify 30 percent threshold to trigger the misuse of the clause.
