CHENNAI: By Thursday afternoon, the Governor C Vidyasagar Rao would probably decide about the candidate who could become the next Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu.
The Governor is likely to invite Edappadi K Palanisamy 57, the Minister of the Public Works Department. He was carefully picked by VK Sasikala to resume the position of the new chief of the ruling party. E.K Palanisamy is known to have 124 state legislators as his core supporters that could make him win the ticket to CM of Tamil Nadu.
Next up in the race is the acting Chief Minister O Panneerselvam who is backed with a skimpy head count of 11 MLA supporters by his side. But it is a fact that his name was first considered among the most trusted to take the place of the CM within a few hours of the death of Jayalalithaa in the Apollo hospital.
The AIADMK is grouped with 134 of Tamil Nadu's 234 legislators headed by VK Sasikala who is now serving four years of her imprisonment in the Bengaluru jail after being convicted of the corruption case. In her absence, she had recommended the name of Palanisamy as the presumptive Chief Minister.
