There have been many deaths reported of both the army personnel and the civilians along the Line of Control in the Poonch sector of Jammu and Kashmir, because of the numerous ceasefire violations by the Pakistani army. The recent death that happened because of the ceasefire violation is of a 16 year old teenager named, Tanweer on this Friday.
Even when the family has intended to bury his dead body in rituals in their own land at the Noorkote village on the Line of Control, they have been stopped because of the intense firing from the Pakistani side. Then, a local mosque has intervened and announced an impassioned plea requesting them to hold their firing for the ritual of the 16 year old Tanweer.
According to Jehangir Mir, Member of State Legislative Council, a local mosque in the area has announced on the loudspeakers that, “You have killed a man in firing. Stop the firing. We want to conduct the funeral prayers.”
Because of the fear of getting killed in the firing from the Pakistan, many locals residing in the villages near the Line of Control have begun to move to other areas leaving their natives.
“There is lot of fear. Two to three bombs are dropping at one place, they cover a large area causing causalities of people and livestock, people are living in total fear,” said Sunil Kumar, resident of a village near the border.
According to one of the police officials in the region, “The Indian Army retaliated effectively using same calibre weapons.”
The ceasefire agreement between India and Pakistan during the year 2003 has become virtually redundant with over 300 incidents of firing and shelling all across the Line of Control and International Border in Jammu and Kashmir region.
