Jayalalitha, the late Chief Minister of Tamil Nadu and former AIADMK leader, is considered and offered prayers as goddess by many of her followers in the Tamil Nadu state. In the memory of her, some of her die hard followers have decided to build a temple, in memory of her leadership.
A former counsellor, M Swaminathan and his associates have come up with this initiative to build a temple in memory of her in Thanjavur by placing a bronze statue of her in the sanctorum in a 150 sq ft area. After building, the temple of Jayalalitha will be named as ‘Puraitchi Thalaivi Amma Aalayam’.
The temple also bears displays of big portraits related to Jayalalitha, also of the former Chief Minister and her guru M G Ramachandran, and also of C N Annadurai.
Swaminathan also revealed that inside the temple, near her bronze statue, a lamp will be lit that emits perpetually depicting her existence and also songs that praise her will also be played in the temple continuously as mantras offered to her.
On December 5, Jayalalitha has passed away leaving all of her followers in sorrow and grief, and her dead body is put to rest in the Marina Beach besides her mentor M G Ramachandran. She struggled for 74 days in Apollo Hospital in Chennai fighting with death.
It has been identified that there are two reasons behind the decision to bury her body and not cremating her, despite her being a practising Iyengar. One is that, she is a follower of Dravidian politics, which is inherently atheistic in principles, and the second reason is that her close associate Sasikala did not want any family member to be around her in her final rites.
