Reliance JIO First Launched Inaugural Plan On September

Telecom Regulatory Authority of India, TRAI has asked Reliance JIO to provide explanation as to why it has further extended its free voice and data services. It intimated Jio that which is actually violating the regulations as the promotional offers are normally limited to 90 days period only.
On December 20, TRAI’s regulator had despatched a letter to Mukesh Ambani who announced free data and complementary voice calls offerings for its existing and new customers under the ‘Happy New Year offer’. The JIO had already exhausted with the 90-day inaugural welcome plan that completed as on December 3.
Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd (RJIL) gave contrasting explanation to the TRAI illustrating that the latest Happy New Year offer is different from the JIO Welcome Offer that commenced on September 5. The initial offer had provided 4GB of free data per day while the new offer is capped with 1GB under Fair Usage Policy. JIO further elaborated that in the first offer there was no option of renewal or payment after the 4GB limit was reached but with the current seasonal offer one can avail recharge of the data and the speed.
TRAI has however asked JIO to submit an estimated month-wise projection of the number of subscribers that are expected to be added till March 31, 2017.
TRAI said that free voice calls, unlimited video calling, free data, and free JIO apps among others, were offered without break under the various promotional offers by RJIL from September 5. TRAI notified to RJIL that it face preliminary examination of the current seasonal offer.
